Pub On The Park (Martello St, by London Fields) brings you a new bi-weekly pub quiz on Sundays, presented by a couple of the The Quietus chaps.

Coming at you from the very depths of time itself (well, mainly from the mid-70s to the present day) is a brand new concept in multi-media musical entertainment (as well as current affairs and other malarkey) designed to soothe your brow, excite your brains and round off the weekend triumphantly.

Featuring a Wizardlike spell caster acting as Quiz Master is Mr. Jeremy Allen. And also present is the Prestidigitator On The Cross Fader Mr John Doran and his Necronomicon of Afrobeat, Northern Soul, Funk, Cosmic Disco and Psych Rock!

So after polishing off a Sunday roast or two and some of the Pub In The Park’s fine mahogany brown ales why not grab a pen and paper in order to seek musical enlightenment in the bi-weekly ELECTRIC QUIZZARD!

There will be a general knowledge NEWSTRODAMUS round; IT’S A KIND OF MAGUS music and SHAZAM BAN, THANK YOU MAN! audio rounds (featuring magical mash-ups and other electronic ephemera); the CLOAK ON THE WATER section (so mysterious, not even the quizzards fully comprehend what it is yet); JOHN’s NECROTIC DEATH METAL VOCAL PRIZE SNOWBALL QUESTION; THE WIZARD’S SLEEVENOTES, the YOU’RE THE WAND FOR ME FATTY specialist segment and many other esoteric and arcane types of quizzardry.

There will be a main cash prize of £50 as well as a runner up prize of food and drinks and spot and snowball prizes. We’ll be setting up and playing music after 7pm every other Sunday and the quizzardy begins at 7.30pm sharp… Only £1 per head to play. Maximum six per team.

The Evening Standard is celebrating Truman beer returning to the East End. Here’s what they say.

“Truman beer has made a comeback in the East End after not producing a drop for more than two decades.

Ale enthusiasts James Morgan and Michael-George Hemus acquired the Truman brand and have made its first product since the original Brick Lane brewery closed in 1989.

They enlisted the help of the award-winning Nethergate Brewery to produce Truman’s Runner. Now they hope to open their own commercial brewhouse. The 30-year-old entrepreneurs, who work in Brick Lane, were inspired to take on the project after walking past the derelict site every day.

Mr Morgan said: “We’ve spent the last 10 years in that area and it’s always been this big hole. It seemed a crying shame. This was the capital of the world for brewing at one point. Truman was the world’s biggest brewer in the 1870s.”

Established in 1666, the site closed in 1989 due to competition from continental-style lagers. The pair acquired the Truman name this year and spent hours searching archives for old recipes.

Planning rules mean they cannot use the Brick Lane site, and they are seeking a new east London location. Mr Morgan said: “Our dream is to bring Truman’s back to the people it belongs to.”

Truman’s Runner is served in the Scolt Head, N1; Griffin, Lennard Street, EC2; Carpenter’s Arms, Cheshire Street, E2; Water Poet, E1; Pub in the Park, E8; and Barnsbury, Liverpool Road, N1″

Apparently it’s the new “done thing” in East London, with the East London Pétanque Association, recently described as “dapper, deck-shoed twenty- and thirtysomethings who love nothing better than a gravel strip and some small metal balls” by the Evening Standard.Posh labels like Pernod Richard, Veuve Clicot and Karl Lagerfeld are at it too (with custom made Chanel boules of course…)

Still, if you can’t afford the £1,665 set or Louis Vuitton ‘s £1,450 lot, don’t think you can’t join in the fun. We’ve got a Petanque pit (Can we just call it boules?) at Pub in the Park and will let you have a go for free.

Just ask at the bar.
